A man was standing in my door the other day, he seemed nervous, I could hear him breathing heavily, I could smell his sweat and hear him walking in circles before he had the strength to knock on my door. I invited him to come in, he was obviously scared of something. He said he believed his wife was plotting against him. He believed she wanted him out for the money and because he cheated on her once or twice with the prostitutes of the other side of the town. I asked him how could he reached the conclusion that his own wife was planning his murder, what were the threats that he felt. The subject started explaining that in the mornings, when he was about to leave his home, he would find a note on the feet of the door. A threatening note with very beautiful feminine writing and perfume scented. The family has a son, and the maids and servants barely knew how to write, so all his suspicions were under his own wife, since he does not know other women of enough knowledge to write so elegantly a letter.

The letter said "You will be dead soon, mister Smith"

The subject showed me the letter. I could say from first second it was not from his wife. They weren't sharing the same scent. There was a lingering perfume scent on him, probably he is too used to it to notice it himself. That is the scent of the perfume of his wife. And if it was her he might could have noticed her waking up in the middle of the night to do that.

This scent, this letter, didn't came from the house itself. It had to be an outsider. Plus it didn't had any motivation, it was only a death threat. Didn't ask for anything in exchange. This person probably had a grudge. Was a woman and was an outsider.

I decided to wait from late and spend the night around the corner, waiting to see anything suspicious. It was at sunrise when a figure walked up the street, it was a beautiful young lady, pretty young. She looked around suspiciously and passed down the letter.

The home

She walked down and I could smell the air breeze behind her. And I could almost laugh. Later, when the whole house woke up I knocked on the door, and asked mister Smith to let me talk to his son. Ah, youngsters. The boy was a young bachelor, and definitely those letters weren't addressed to his father. Were addressed to him. His father thought his boy was naive and pure. But he was visiting this lady for a while until the family arranged an engagement for him and he dumped her. The woman was angry.

It was such an easy case. And another conclusion to think that angry women can be scary, but that is something police will need to fix after having already the boy pointing out who is the lady. My job is done.

Case closed.
